Quality Control Software: Seven Questions Before You Choose

Before choosing quality control software, ask about inspection rules, quarantine, NCR and CAPA, AQL, CoA/CoC certificates and reports, plus an honest note on Afrandeh.

Most organizations start quality control with paper forms or an Excel file, and the trouble shows up when a suspect batch has to be traced, a non-conformance has to be closed or a customer asks for a quality certificate. If you plan to choose software for this, it helps to know which questions make a real difference before you look at features. This list is based on what Afrandeh quality control software offers today.

1. Are inspection rules defined per item?

The inspector needs to know exactly what to enter for each item. In Afrandeh, custom inspection fields are defined for each item (and each variant): text, number, date, yes/no and list. The batch-number formula and shelf life are recorded here too, and the expiry date is suggested from them.

2. Is the inspection result reliable and traceable?

Accepted and rejected counts and the final status (approved, partially approved or rejected) are recorded. The inspector's name and time are captured automatically and cannot be edited, and every event stays in the record's history.

3. Can a suspect batch be quarantined?

A batch is put on hold with a stated reason and later resolved with "release", "scrap" or "return". Software that only has "pass" and "fail" has no answer for ambiguous batches.

4. Is a non-conformance followed through to corrective action?

Each non-conformance (NCR) is recorded with severity, status and root cause, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are defined under it with an owner and a deadline. When all actions are approved, the NCR closes automatically and can be linked to a customer complaint ticket.

5. Does it have batch traceability and expiry alerts?

Batches nearing expiry are visible at a glance, and you can see which incoming batches an outgoing batch was made from; that is what a quick recall needs.

6. Does it have statistical sampling and a quality certificate?

Afrandeh calculates AQL sampling with the code letter and sample size per ISO 2859-1 and supports Skip-Lot for items with an acceptance history; accepting without inspection is always an explicit user confirmation, never automatic. A certificate of analysis or conformance (CoA/CoC) is printed with the system's print engine and its template can be customized. If you want to know what AQL, NCR and CAPA mean, see the introduction to quality control at Fekrgostar.

7. Are the reports built for decisions?

An SPC chart with control limits, each supplier's acceptance rate, cost of poor quality (COPQ) by item and a BI dashboard for indicators such as the rejection rate.

An honest note

Afrandeh quality control today covers only the temporary warehouse receipt and the temporary warehouse issue, not final documents or invoices. The AQL accept and reject numbers come from a statistical approximation that is enough for internal use; for certified purposes they must be checked against the official standard. An item without a quality-control definition does not appear in the quality control list.
